My Profile

So, where did it all begin...

Art was always something I enjoyed, and excelled in, but my career as a sculptor remained dormant until my early 30's. It was then that I realized that sculpting was a part of me that I had to do - to express or communicate to everyone.

My sculpting career began in 1992. It was a very positive move for me, one which was inspired by a very close friend of mine. Yes, there was a bit of talent beforehand- I always excelled in any art class throughout my school years, and with any creative project that came about. I also enjoyed doing art just for the sake of doing it. But, the real awakening was 1992 when I began studying at the E.A. School of Fine Arts.

I quickly became engrossed in my work, and the best part is I ENJOYED IT! Since then, I have developed my own personal style (as all artists do), which has been critiqued as very realistic, and akin to the works of Michelangelo and Degas. Personally, it's just me, and my style.

While my preference is clay, I have worked with other materials, and would recommend that the material an artist chooses is key to the art you produce, and how well you produce with it.

There are no limits in what I do, although I prefer to keep most of my works at a scale of 1/10th life size, because it's easier given the facilities at the Art school. I will begin on life size (and greater than life size) once I have the facilities to fire the larger size works.

I prefer to finish my sculptures with paints and stains of various bases and colors. Being called "very painterly" is a compliment to me because I like the freedom this gives me to set the sculpture apart from basic whites and hues of gray. Some of my works are a bit more colorful than others, but I feel that they aren't right without these colorful overlays that actually enhance their depth. After all, it really is all about depth.

I continue to study sculpture at the Educational Alliance School of Fine Arts, which has been a part of New York's art scene for over 125 years. The Alliance has some of the best art masters (who have a great deal of patience) who continue to inspire me on my path as a sculptor.
